Bead Annealing Kiln FAQs

Why do glass beads need annealing?

Torch-made beads cool unevenly, locking internal stress into the glass — unannealed beads can crack days or months later. Annealing holds beads at a controlled temperature (typically ~960°F for soft glass) and cools them slowly, relieving that stress for good.

Can I anneal beads in a regular glass kiln?

You can, but bead annealers are sized and shaped for the job — compact chambers, bead doors or mandrel slots on many models, and efficient operation for daily lampwork sessions.

What size bead annealer do I need?

Match it to your session output: hobbyist lampworkers do fine with the compact models, while production bead makers want larger chambers to anneal a full day's work at once.
