The solid state relays are incredibly efficient compared to the standard mechanical relays and are able to operate at much faster speeds. What this equates to is incredibly tight temperature control for accurate firings, longer element life, and savings on your electrical bill!

The standard mechanical relays have moving parts which cause wear and tear over the years and will eventually need to be replaced; however with a solid state relay it's likely to last the entire life of the kiln! You willsave money and time by never needing to worry about this in the future!

Furniture Kit

Furniture Kits are necessary accessories for any kiln owner as firing directly on the kiln floor is not only bad for the kiln, but your pieces as well. In addition to this, they're also useful! A furniture kit will allow you to stack multiple shelves on top of one another in order to maximize the useable space when firing smaller pieces.

If you have one that will fit this kiln size already, then you're in luck! But if not, you'll want to ensure you add this to your order as well.

Furniture Kit includes:

Bead Door

The Bead Door is a 2" x 4" opening with an insulated door covering. This is a very useful option when you need quick and easy access into the interior of your kiln, without opening the main door and releasing the kiln's heat.

    Olympic warranty highlights

    • Two years on most kilns; one year on cone 10 kilns and on kilns equipped with a Kiln Sitter and safety timer.
    • Thermocouples and kiln furniture are not covered.
    • Register your kiln online with Olympic after purchase.
    • Contact Soul Ceramics first. If the issue is not resolved, notify Olympic in writing with the date, place and proof of purchase.
    • You ship the parts Olympic requests at your cost; Olympic repairs, replaces or refunds within 30 days and ships back at its cost. You reinstall the parts yourself.
    • Not covered: overfiring, exceeding the cone or temperature rating, reduction or salt firing, improper installation or voltage, and altered kilns.

    Extended warranty (Clyde)

    Error on the side of HOT

    Ordered the Olympic Kiln Champ LX 1 w/Solid State relays and a Olympic Genesis Controller in December 2021. Due to COVID and supply chain issues, the kiln arrived in July 2022. I am using the kiln for COE 96 glass.

    The packaging was solid. The kiln came with only one minor chip along the top of the kiln, so it will not cause any harm. The arm to hold the lid up is solid and works great (also it is quiet since it is just a piece of steel). Easy to assemble the arm to the kiln. The base came separate and put together with the exception of the rubber for the feet; they are in a plastic bag at the bottom, so don't throw away the box until you get your rubber paddings out.

    It comes with pre-programmed settings for finishes like full fuse, tac, or slump. I used the tac with factor settings - it is the same as a full fuse. I need to re-program the factory settings to reduce the hold time, but that should not be too much of an issue. I haven't tried the full fuse for fear of cooking the glass to a dot. May try this weekend on a junk project.

    The controller is easy to program as it is a digital and eliminates the need to keep pushing a small 'increase' or 'decrease' button multiple times. The controller is easy to read with great background to text contrast (seems to be Section 508 compliant - not sure if that is what they were going for, but like it). The manual that comes with the controller explains the programming process quite well. If you are familiar with programming, this should make perfect sense. If not - there are videos on YouTube to help you.

    Even though it took a long time to get here (well, let's face it - 1 week is a long time to wait for a long desired kiln) - it is worth it for the digital controller, height of the stand, and the quietness of the kiln (no beep, beep, beep, etc. as you click the up/down buttons). This is my first SoulCeramics kiln. I would not hesitate to order again if I need a new one.

    I ordered the Kiln with three weeks left in December as a Christmas gift for my wife; I ordered with the window, hardware kit and upgraded controller and it still made it on time(2-3 days to spare). I called prior to ordering and spoke with TJ, he confirmed that the kiln I was looking at made sense, was going to suit my needs and was an appropriate size.

    I would order from Soul Ceramics again, but I have a great kiln, we will need to upsize at some point.
